Curriculum Vitae

Research

The central theme of my research concerns environmental impacts of land-use/land-cover and climate change with particular attention to the hydrologic and carbon cycles. In this vein, I take a three-pronged approach. First, I analyze remotely sensed observations to measure and characterize the changes to the Earth’s land-cover, primarily in temperate environments. This research also includes the development of new land-cover and land-cover change monitoring strategies using sophisticated computer algorithms. The second layer of my research makes use of observational and model-based approaches to understand the impacts of land-cover/land-cover change, as well as climate change on environmental states and fluxes. These include changes to the Earth’s water, carbon, and energy cycles at multiple spatial scales. The third component of my work involves science communication to stake-holders in developing regions.
