Undergraduate Awards and Scholarships
Multiple awards and scholarships were bestowed to undergraduate students majoring in either Forest Science or Wildlife Ecology. Congratulations to all the recipients!
Wildlife Management Institute Internships
Betty Chu and Helena Wehrs were selected for internships with the Wildlife Management Institute to assist on-site with the 87th North American Wildlife & Natural Resources Conference, which was held in Spokane, Washington in March 2022. Support for the internships comes from the Wildlife Management Institute from funds made available by the Dr. Laurence R. Jahn Wildlife Conservation Fund.
Robert McCabe Field Course Scholarships
The Department awarded four Robert McCabe scholarships to wildlife ecology undergraduate students attending the Wildlife Ecology Summer Field Course. The recipients (inset photo, from left) were Alex Herzog, Elle Krellwitz, Raina Hess, and Ashley Bedtka.
Forestry Awards:
Zachary Downs was awarded the Robert B. Hendricks Memorial/Hardwood Mfrs. Assoc. and the Stone Forestry Scholarships (both in the amount of $2,000). Grace Harvey received the Helen Miller Forestry, the Irving W. Gerhardt, and the Stone Forestry Scholarships ($2,000, $3,000, and $2,000, respectively). Morgan Rubelowski was awarded the Harry Scharff Memorial and the Vicky Lee Hirsh Endowment for Conservation Scholarships ($1,500 and $3,000, respectively). Lauren Steininger received the Vera and Donald Wallach and Stone Scholarships ($2,500 and $2,000, respectively). Evan Peepo was awarded the Earle D. Lyon Memorial and the Stone Forestry Scholarships ($500 and $2,000, respectively) and the David Connor Forestry Internship Award ($7,000). Additional recipients of the Stone Forestry Scholarship, with amounts ranging from $1,000 to $3,000, include the following: Nick Glaser ($3,000), Will Hansen ($2,000), Tien Kolodziej ($3,000), Katrina Lebl ($1,000), Anthony Luzzio ($1,000), Nishan Mahdasian ($1,000), Natalie Marron ($1,000), and Jaxson Salmon ($3,000).
Wildlife Awards:
Isaac Laumer received the Albert J. & Adelaide E. Riker Academic Merit Award ($2,500). Hermary Gonzales and Megan Walsh were awarded Alfred & Isabella Galpin Scholarships ($1,250). Thijs Laux received the Alpha Gamma Rho Alumni Scholarship ($2,000). Ivy Widick was awarded the Anna L Rowe Scholarship. Molly Korthals and Frances Meyer received Dorothy Strong Scholarships ($2,000). Elizabeth Skiera won the Esther I. Ihlenfeldt Memorial Scholarship ($2,000). Jenna Castillo received the Ferdinand Plaenert Scholarship; Pearl Pincus was awarded the Henry Steenbock Academic Merit Award ($2,500). Sydney Buteyn received the Netzer-Brouchoud Scholarship ($1,750). Mackenzie Cote and Elkin Thao were awarded the Robert A. McCabe Scholarship for Academic Excellence ($1,500). Elizabeth Skiera won the Ruffed Grouse Society – John Michael Dew Memorial Scholarship ($1,000). Lexi Kohn, Megan Walsh, and Joye Zhou were recipients of the Ruth & Carl Miller Academic Merit Award ($2,500). Joseph Armbruster, Ashley Bedtka, Brittany Bertram, Kamber Cofta, Raina Hess, T Innis, Kayla Okla, Sami Pruitt, Audrey Wegener, Abigail Westendorf, Joseph Willman, and Abbey Yang received Vera and Donald Wallach Scholarships ($1,500 or $2,500). Sydney Buteyn, Gabe Phillips, and Helena Wehrs were awarded the Vicky Lee Hirsch Endowment for Conservation Scholarship ($3,000).
