Graduate School

The Graduate School oversees graduate programs at UW-Madison.

Applicants and students must satisfy the requirements of both the Graduate School and the Department for admission, progress, and completion of degrees.

+Prerequisite Courses for Wildlife Ecology

Important Notes:

  • Applies to both MS and PhD students
  • Courses below are the minimum requirements
  • Students should complete most of these courses before they enter the program
  • Once in the program, students can finish remaining courses
  • The Graduate Committee may add additional courses based on the student’s field of study

Courses:

  • one course in ecology
    • population ecology/dynamics is strongly recommended
  • one course in one of the following:
    • conservation biology
    • wildlife management
    • natural resources policy
    • human dimensions of natural resources
  • one course in organismal biology
    • examples: physiology, terrestrial vertebrates, ornithology
    • does not include plant based courses
  • one course in genetics or evolution

+Wildlife Ecology Pre-Fall 2014 Requirements

Wildlife Ecology MS and PhD students who began their program prior to Fall 2014 (and maintained continuous enrollment in every fall and spring semester since initial enrollment) should follow the pre-Fall 2014 Program Requirements.
